Gilbert is a small railroad town of about 570 people in the peach country of western Lexington County, around 20 minutes west of our shop, with a 24/7 emergency line for the town and the farms on every side of it. We repair heat pumps and air conditioners, install ductless mini-splits and service manufactured-home systems here. The mix is what sets Gilbert apart: rail-era houses, farmhouses and manufactured homes on country lots, and plenty of metal shops that someone eventually wants to cool.

Peach orchards, rail-era houses and farm shops around Gilbert

Gilbert grew up around a station that opened at a spot called Gilbert Hollow in 1869, when the railroad between Columbia and Augusta was finished. The community went by Lewiedale for a time, incorporating under that name in 1899, and switched to Gilbert in 1904. Two local buildings, the David Jefferson Griffith House and Music Hall Evangelical Lutheran Church, were placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

A mini-split can cool and heat a shop or workshop without running ductwork across an open building.

Today the town counts 571 residents, and the countryside around it is orchards, pasture and pine woods. Census estimates for the town itself show the layers: about 13 percent of homes were built before 1940, roughly half between 1990 and 2009, and about one in four is a mobile home. Electricity heats around 86 percent of them and propane most of the rest. Every Fourth of July, the Gilbert Community Club holds the Lexington County Peach Festival at Gilbert Community Park, and that date lands squarely in the stretch when outdoor units work hardest.

Manufactured homes on country lots around Gilbert usually rely on a heat pump for both seasons.

For HVAC, the rural pattern brings a few recurring jobs. Heat pumps run in both seasons, so their defrost controls and reversing valves get a workout. Manufactured homes need ductwork and equipment suited to their construction. And workshops, farm offices and shops often have no ducts at all, which is where mini-split installation fits.

How do we handle a call on a Gilbert farm or country lot?

Most of our Gilbert calls start with a phone conversation about what you are seeing and where the equipment sits. On site, we test the outdoor unit and its electrical connections, measure refrigerant pressures and temperatures, and then move to the indoor unit, ductwork and thermostat.

Gauges and temperature readings tell whether a heat pump is low on refrigerant or failing mechanically.

For heat pump problems, our heat pump repair work covers defrost boards, reversing valves, capacitors and heat strips. For a shop or new room, we look at insulation, doors and electrical service before recommending a mini-split size. Every option comes with its trade-offs explained, and you make the decision. If a shop head that is already in place starts dripping or blowing warm, mini-split repair covers the drain, the filters, the sensors and a refrigerant check.

Clean coils matter most during the early-July heat, when systems run nearly nonstop.

A full replacement in town or out in the county generally needs a building permit, and the equipment has to be set up for the home it serves. Whoever you hire, it is worth looking up their license on the South Carolina LLR website before work starts; it takes a minute and applies to any HVAC contractor working on a Gilbert property.

From Peach Festival Road to US-1 and I-20 exit 44

Gilbert Elementary, Gilbert Middle and Gilbert High serve the town along with Centerville Elementary, all part of Lexington School District One, and the Gilbert-Summit library branch serves both small towns. Summit lies directly to the west. US-1, signed as Augusta Highway out here, runs a couple of miles north of the town center, and I-20 exit 44 connects by way of Juniper Springs Road. Gilbert addresses use the 29054 ZIP.

The exit 44 interchange is SC-34, Pond Branch Road, and it is the quicker way in when we are coming from the I-20 side of Lexington. The Peach Festival itself has real staying power: the 2025 event was the 65th, still organized by the Gilbert Community Club. If your system quits the week of the Fourth, call early, because systems across town are already running hard that week.

What do Gilbert residents ask about rural HVAC service?

Do you come out to rural Gilbert properties off US-1?

Yes. Gilbert is about 20 minutes from our Lexington base, and our service area runs well past the town limits to farms and country lots on both sides of US-1. Mention any locked gate, dirt lane or livestock near the unit when you call so we arrive prepared. Repairs can often be scheduled the same day when there is room on the board, and emergency calls are taken 24/7.

Can you install a mini-split in a Gilbert farm shop or workshop?

Yes. Farm shops are part of the peach-country landscape around Gilbert, and a ductless mini-split works well in one because it needs only a small hole through the wall for the line set and no ductwork. We size it to the building's floor area, insulation and roll-up doors, and we check the electrical supply. Uninsulated metal buildings gain heat fast, so we may suggest insulation first for the system to keep up.

Do you service manufactured-home HVAC in Gilbert?

We do. About one in four homes in town is a mobile home by Census estimate, and we repair and replace packaged units, split heat pumps and electric furnaces on manufactured homes, and we inspect the belly duct and crossover connections where airflow is often lost. Any replacement equipment is chosen to be suitable for manufactured housing and sized to the home rather than oversized.

“Chong was awesome! He showed up after I called him last minute in the rain. He performed two inspections, electrical and HVAC saving my clients tens of thousands of dollars down the road. I’m more than appreciative for his expertise, professionalism, and willingness to do good when he didn’t have to accommodate us at all. Thanks!”
